First World War (1914-1918)

7 Years' War

Second wave of British troops leaving trenches on the Somme.
War of the Nations, New York Times Co., New York, 1919

Centred in Europe, more than 70 million personnel (60 million Europeans) were mobilised to fight 'the war to end all wars'.

More than 9 million combatants were killed mainly due to technological advances in weaponry being way ahead of advances in mobility.

My WWI research is dedicated to the memory of those who served, died and survived the war that 'would be over by Christmas'.
